How the Atlas works
The Atlas is written by the people who read here. Anyone can propose a change to any entry. Most changes are small and obvious — a date, a title, a missing book — and those go in quickly.
When people disagree, nothing is settled by whoever argues longest. The change becomes a note beside the entry, and it only appears once readers who usually disagree with each other both find it helpful. That is harder to game than a vote, and it means no one person decides.

Everything a Reader can. Your proposals are marked as coming from someone with a record.
Editor
10 accepted editsor 25 well-rated notes
Your changes go live as you make them. You can review other people’s, and put back anything that went wrong.
Steward
by invitationSettle flags, protect an entry that keeps being fought over, merge duplicates, and make someone an Editor.
There are two ways up on purpose. You can get there by making good edits, or by rating other people’s fairly — because a reference written only by its most prolific editors slowly stops being a reference.
